Microalgae – Spirulina – nutraceutics – cosmetics – healthcare

What we do? Healthy functional products and ingredients from microalgae

AlgoSource identifies and extracts molecules of interest from microalgae to objectify and market bioactive properties with high added value (bulk or finished products, including Private Label). As a source of proteins, lipids and micronutrients, microalgae represent a natural and effective alternative to components derived from chemistry for the nutraceutical, cosmetics and health-nutrition sectors. Over 25 years, AlgoSource has acquired perfect mastery of all stages of the value chain, from selection of the best strains of microalgae to extraction of their active ingredients.

Our expertise: the extraction of molecules of interest

AlgoSource has over 25 years of experience in selection, cultivation, extraction and formulation of functional ingredients from microalgae.
In particular, the company has developed real know-how related to Spirulina and its principle active ingredient, phycocyanin, for which it has patented a cold extraction method that excludes the use of solvents or chemicals, to preserve all of its original bioactive properties. From this expertise came an exceptional and effective product of natural origin: Spirulysat®

In addition to this historic strain, AlgoSource is working on other microalgae to extract the best molecules of interest for the cosmetics and health nutrition sectors. From Chlorella to Scenedesmus, without forgetting Tetraselmis or Isochrisis, AlgoSource conducts research on a dozen strains simultaneously, each offering functional ingredients of very high added value.

Lastly, to best protect these molecules of interest without subjecting them to a thermal change which could damage their bioactive activity, AlgoSource has developed exceptional mastery of a cold sterilization process, including in small volumes.

Choosing microalgae
means going back to the source

Microalgae and cyanobacteria are microscopic single-cell life forms, present in aquatic environments for 4 billion years. They share an extraordinary power with the plant world: photosynthesis, i.e., the ability to use sunlight to attach carbon dioxide, make it living matter and release oxygen. So then, they made it possible for earth’s atmosphere to be created and, thus, for life to develop on our Planet.

The question of microalgae

What are microalgae?

We’re all familiar with the algae that we find on beaches in the summer, such as seaweed or kelp, collected by farmers who use it as natural fertilizer in the fields of Brittany and Normandy, or else those that we Eat, like nori sheets which are used to wrap the well-known Japanese makis with their beautiful shiny black colour.

But are you familiar with microalgae, those tiny little organisms which are, nonetheless, among the first living beings to appear on Earth? Are they part of the same family as the algae or macroalgae that we see on the beaches? What is their role and above all, how can they be used?

Here are some answers to these questions; you’ll discover that small size can be synonymous with great strength!

They chose microalgae

They chose microalgae, sport, health and wellness

MARINE CANARD | COACH

As a coach in wellness and sports nutrition, I discovered the spirulina-based product line from AlgoSource during the La Mer XXL trade show in Nantes.
As a regular consumer of spirulina, which contains many nutritional benefits that are particularly interesting for athletes, I followed a 1-month treatment of Spirulysat® in vials before the race. It provided me with minerals and helped increase my energy.

THOMAS CHAMPION | MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDER

For both training and competition, the body requires a lot of energy and inputs. During periods of fatigue or during long outings, a course of Spirulysat® boosts the body. A two-week treatment allows you to feel better, boost your energy, or perhaps even cancel your daily nap (no more low energy after a meal).

DR. GASTINEL-MOUSSOUR | VETERINARY PHYTOTHERAPIST

For cats, the liquid spirulina extract, Spirulysat®, is the most convenient form to use. It has very little taste and cats don’t mind the smell. Of course, some do not want it, but there aren’t many! Spirulina is an alga which contains, among other active molecules, a blue pigment, phycocyanin, which is responsible for its anti-oxidant effects. But the benefits of spirulina are not limited to its anti-oxidant effects because it’s often the starting point for improving the overall condition of the body.

JACK LEGRAND | DIRECTOR OF UMR 6144 AT CNRS

AlgoSource has achieved undeniable national and European recognition, with remarkable participation in European programs on the farming of microalgae, notably spirulina, and on algae refining. AlgoSource has very significant research and development activities, notably through its privileged relationship with the GEPEA laboratory, UMR CNRS 6144.

ROMAIN OLIVIER | SPORT RESCUE TEAM AT SEA – ASCA 44

The benefits of Spirulysat® and of Low-sodium Marine Magnesium from AlgoSource are very significant in the framework of sports training. They make it possible to derive greater benefit from training by helping to manage fatigue and the continuous training sessions. The quality of the AlgoSource product line also makes it possible to spend the winter period in good conditions while limiting the risk of the onset of injury and over-fatigue to the extent possible. I recommend AlgoSource products as part of a sports training program but also to prevent fatigue in daily life.
