At AlgoSource, research is what drives our growth, relying on three main levers of innovation: process engineering, identification and extraction of molecules of interest, and objectification of properties.

For nearly thirty years, AlgoSource has built its development on one credo: only strong research can create products and ingredients from microalgae capable of delivering real performance.

Fuelled by the same passion for microalgae and scientific excellence, bringing together Ph.D.’s in process engineering applied to the microalgal sphere, biochemical engineers, pharmacists and laboratory technicians, the R&D department is involved at three levels:

• Advanced Research, responsible for continuously enriching scientific knowledge on microalgae and discovering new molecules of interest with strong potential;
• Applied Research, which develops methods for cultivating biomass, optimizing the extraction of active ingredients and objectivising properties, permitting them to then be offered in different types of products;
• And lastly, Development, which provides the health, nutraceutical and cosmetics markets with innovative products and ingredients adapted to their needs and to the expectations of consumers around the world.

Since the late 1990s, close collaboration between AlgoSource and the GEPEA laboratory (CNRS – University of Nantes Joint Research Unit) has made it possible to implement original processes for biomass cultivation and extraction. Complemented by a solid partnership with the Algosolis research platform, this joint research has made it possible to file several patents, notably for an exclusive process of cold extraction, done in water, without chemicals or solvents.

Driven by the ambition to provide the best that microalgae can provide to support health, the AlgoSource R&D team is regularly called upon to participate in collaborative and multidisciplinary international research projects focused on microalgae:

Each day, relying on implementation of the most innovative technologies, on multiple international collaborations and on the deep expertise of its teams, the AlgoSource R&D team is engaged in large-scale exploitation of this resource of incredible potential known as microalgae. To do this, the R&D department is committed:

• to perfectly mastering the cultivation of microalgal biomass, the primary source of quality for its products, and to maximising the production of molecules of interest through successive selections and process engineering
• to respecting the original structure of the active elements, thereby favouring cold extraction without solvents or chemicals to preserve the properties sought
• to demonstrating, scientifically and rigorously, the effectiveness of the products and ingredients it offers to the market.

Each day, relying on implementation of the most innovative technologies, on multiple international collaborations and on the deep expertise of its teams, the AlgoSource R&D team is engaged in large-scale exploitation of this resource of incredible potential known as microalgae. With the support of the Scientific and Innovation Committee, AlgoSource researchers reveal, each day, the most effective health and cosmetic properties derived from microalgae and subject them to in-vitro and in-vivo clinical trials, which can confirm their effectiveness.
