Alpha Biotech – The Pioneers

In 1993, Alpha Biotech created the first microalgae farm in open pools in France. In 1997 it moved to Assérac, in the heart of the salt marshes of the Guérande peninsula. Nearly three decades of selection of the best strains and uncompromising cultivation of microalgae have allowed the company to acquire exceptional know-how and expertise, recognized around the world. Value is derived from the biomass of its pools and its photobioreactors in the form of active extracts, objectified through research work with the best French and European laboratories.

In 2016, the company opened a specialized production unit in Guérande, intended to extract the active ingredients from fresh microalgae biomass. In order to preserve all of the biological properties of these molecules, a patented cold extraction process, in water, (without solvents or chemicals) was implemented. Formulated and packaged to measure, these molecules of interest are then offered to customers as ingredients or as finished products.

AlgoSource Technologies – The Experts

In 2008, Dr. Jack Legrand, Olivier Lépine, Philippe Dréno and Dr. Jean Jenck decided to create AlgoSource Technologies, a research and consultancy firm offering a full range of services, from production engineering to the recovery of factory effluents within a system of industrial ecology. Located at the premises of the GEPEA laboratory – University of Nantes and CNRS Joint Research Unit, specialist in Bioprocess Engineering applied to microalgae – in Saint-Nazaire, AlgoSource Technologies advises and assists its clients in matters related to the cultivation of microalgae, associated applications and their components in different markets. Its expertise covers all processes:
