Our story

The liquid form, the result of research and the signature of AlgoSource

AlgoSource is an independent French company, founded over 30 years ago on the Guérande peninsula in the Pays de la Loire region. From its inception, the company has been built on a strong scientific conviction: for a natural active ingredient to fully express its biological potential, it must be bio-extracted and preserved as close as possible to its original form. This approach has guided our research on spirulina, an exceptional microalga, and more specifically on phycocyanin, its naturally antioxidant blue pigment involved in supporting the immune system. After many years of research, our teams have shown that not drying phycocyanin and keeping it in liquid form is essential to preserving its native molecular structure, which is directly responsible for its biological activity. This choice is therefore not a marketing ploy: it is the result of in-depth scientific work and is the basis for the clinical benefits observed in our human trials.

This scientific approach then naturally extended to another emblematic resource of our region: natural magnesium from the Guérande salt marshes. Thanks to an exclusive mechanical process, without any chemical transformation, we have developed a low-sodium liquid magnesium that is better tolerated and highly absorbable. Comparative studies have shown that the bioavailability (the body's absorption capacity) of our liquid magnesium is comparable to that of the standard dry and chemical forms on the market, such as bisglycinate or malate. The difference is significant for the consumer: equivalent effectiveness, without synthetic chemicals, with a simple, natural, and 100% French formulation, and excellent digestive tolerance.

Today, the liquid form constitutes the DNA of AlgoSource . Whether it is phycocyanin, magnesium, or formulas combining vitamins (such as B6, B12 or C), type 2 collagen or plant extracts, it reflects the same vision: to make accessible natural, simple solutions whose effectiveness is proven to improve our quality of life.

At AlgoSource, responsibility is not an abstract concept: it structures our way of producing, innovating, and planning for the future. We have chosen an industrial and scientific model that respects living organisms, based on the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, such as spirulina and marine magnesium from the Guérande salt marshes.

Our CSR commitment is first and foremost expressed through measured and documented environmental management. AlgoSource is currently the only microalgae company to have conducted and published a complete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on a spirulina extract, Spirulysat®. This assessment has allowed us to objectively evaluate its environmental impact at each stage: production, processing, packaging, and use. This approach to transparency is unique in the microalgae-based food supplement market.

AlgoSource also acts as a biodiversity ambassador for the Pays de la Loire region, contributing to the preservation of ecosystems and the creation of value within the territory. This responsibility also extends to people : product safety, clear formulations, accessible scientific evidence, and contribution to useful clinical research, including in sensitive areas such as cancer and oncology.

R&D and patents

From understanding living organisms to patented innovation

At AlgoSource, research is not about multiplying ingredients, but about gaining a deep understanding of how living organisms function in order to develop simple, natural, and relevant solutions. Our R&D work is based on more than three decades of collaboration with academic laboratories and research centers in France and internationally (GEPEA laboratory and its Algosolis platform, University of Clermont-Ferrand, University of Le Mans, Nantes University Hospital, European Space Agency, Wageningen University & Research, etc.).

This approach has led to the development of patented bio-extraction, stabilization, and formulation technologies specifically designed to preserve the integrity of sensitive active ingredients such as phycocyanin from spirulina or marine magnesium naturally present in the waters of the Guérande salt marshes. These innovations rely on gentle processes, free of chemical solvents, and are currently unique in Europe in the field of liquid nutritional ingredients of natural origin. AlgoSource's patents are not an end in themselves: they reflect a rare ability to transform complex natural resources into reliable, reproducible, and scientifically controlled ingredients.

Our clinical trials

Demonstrate rather than promise

Algosource stands out for its unparalleled level of scientific commitment within its ecosystem. While most players in the microalgae field limit themselves to bibliographic data or marketing promises, we have chosen experimental proof, evaluating our ingredients according to scientific and medical research standards.

Our research programs were initially based on in vitro tests

Algosource stands out for its scientific commitment based on experimental evidence, where the market often relies solely on bibliographic data or marketing promises. Our work is based on evaluations conducted according to the standards of scientific and medical research, from in vitro trials to clinical studies in humans.

Research conducted notably with the Human Nutrition Research Centre West has made it possible to precisely document the biological mechanisms of our liquid spirulina extract, particularly concerning oxidative stress, metabolism, and certain processes involved in cardiovascular pathologies.

At the same time, comparative studies have shown that the bioavailability of our natural liquid magnesium is comparable to that of market reference forms such as bisglycinate, with a natural and French solution.

We are currently the only player in the world to have entered clinical trials on humans using liquid spirulina extracts concentrated in phycocyanin.

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. This methodology, considered the gold standard in medical research, allows for an objective evaluation of the actual effectiveness of an active ingredient, without bias.

The SPIROX trial, dedicated to phycocyanin and metabolic syndrome, demonstrated significant effects on key biological markers, confirming its antioxidant and metabolic activity. In a world overflowing with scientific publications based solely on results from cell models, this human clinical study is—and remains to this day—a world first.

The PROPERTY trial, currently in its final phase, also represents an unprecedented innovation: for the first time, a liquid extract of spirulina concentrated in phycocyanin is being tested in the field of oncology. The objective: to evaluate, in patients with digestive cancer, the natural bioactive extract of AlgoSource to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, the primary side effect of chemotherapy that most often forces doctors to reduce or interrupt chemotherapy treatment.

By combining objective performance comparisons (particularly on magnesium) and high-level clinical trials on its phycocyanin-rich extract, AlgoSource stands out as a unique player: a scientific leader that demonstrates before asserting, and builds its legitimacy on measured, published and reproducible results.
