In our previous article, we took the time to set the stage: premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menstrual pain affect a large portion of women, manifesting in very different ways from one person to another, and can have a significant impact on daily life.
Faced with the diversity of needs related to the female cycle, we chose to develop a complete formula based on the combination of several nutrients and plants selected for their relevance to the female cycle: our natural liquid magnesium - MagOrigine® -, vitamin D, lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris), and yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
This combination brings together four complementary ingredients within a single formula designed to support women on a daily basis.

Why create a supplement dedicated to the female cycle?
Women's cycle-related health is an important issue, as needs and experiences can evolve throughout the different phases of the cycle.
It was this observation that guided our thinking during the formulation process.
Several elements motivated this work:
- Needs that evolve throughout the cycle. Certain nutrients can contribute to the normal functioning of the body and support the different periods of the month.
- The value of a comprehensive nutritional approach. Rather than relying on a single active ingredient, we chose to combine an essential mineral, a vitamin, and two plants traditionally used in the field of women's well-being.
- Demanding standards for the quality of raw materials. The choice of sources, their origin, and their traceability are an integral part of our process.
- A desire to offer a dedicated formula. "PMS & Painful Periods" is part of AlgoSource's broader approach to women's health and well-being.

MagOrigine® magnesium: the strength of a natural, liquid, and clinically studied magnesium
MagOrigine® magnesium is at the heart of this formula.
An essential mineral, magnesium is involved in numerous physiological functions. It contributes in particular to the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal muscle function, the reduction of fatigue, electrolyte balance, and normal energy-yielding metabolism.
The choice of magnesium is not just about the dosage. The form in which a nutrient is provided is essential.
This is why we developed MagOrigine®, a natural marine magnesium derived from the bitterns (mother waters) of the Guérande salt marshes, with reduced sodium content, for excellent digestive tolerance and compatibility with even the most restrictive diets.
A magnesium preserved in its natural ionized form
Unlike dry forms that combine magnesium with another molecule, involving a chemical transformation, MagOrigine® is kept in liquid form and provides magnesium in its ionized Mg²⁺ form.
This approach preserves the molecular form naturally present in the bitterns, which is perfectly assimilable by the body.
The Algosource process is based on a patented filtration technology that notably allows for a significant reduction in sodium content while keeping the magnesium in its ionized form.
The result: a natural, liquid magnesium, with no added magnesium salts and no chemical transformation of the magnesium molecule.
Assimilation compared to reference forms
MagOrigine® has been the subject of an independent in vitro comparative study using a Caco-2 / Transwell model.
At equivalent doses, our magnesium showed solubility and bioavailability comparable to the reference forms studied, notably bisglycinate and malate, and superior to magnesium oxide in this model.
This is the whole point of MagOrigine®: combining a natural origin with a form of magnesium designed to be easily available to the body.
Vitamin D: an essential nutrient for the proper functioning of the body
Vitamin D naturally complements the nutritional action of magnesium.

Nicknamed "lion's foot," it is historically associated with women's well-being and supporting the different periods of the cycle.
Its aerial parts contain tannins and flavonoids, which contribute to its characteristic phytochemical profile.
We chose to include it in this formula to anchor our approach in an ancient phytotherapeutic tradition, by combining this plant with essential nutrients and a second plant traditionally used for menstrual comfort.
Yarrow: a plant traditionally used for menstrual comfort
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) occupies a special place in the formula.
This European plant has been used for a long time in phytotherapeutic traditions.
Its use regarding the menstrual cycle is particularly well-documented.
The European Medicines Agency recognizes the traditional use of yarrow preparations for the symptomatic treatment of mild spasms associated with menstruation. This recognition is based on a long history of traditional use of the plant.
The EMA also indicates that yarrow preparations have long been used for this indication and that experimental data have highlighted spasmolytic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Yarrow thus brings to the formula a dimension directly associated with menstrual comfort.
